walk away

Mark 10:17–22.
We all have to leave something behind in order to be a true disciple of Christ; whether those are things like jobs, education, the comfort of our homes, or things like certain habits or sins, we gotta do our best to leave the things that stop us from reaching our potential as children of God.
Elder Matig-a
Week # 59

I'm working on the lesson for Alma 24. In verses 13-17 the Anti-Nephi-Lehis bury their weapons. We all have to leave things behind in order follow Christ. It's not enough to just walk away.

The young ruler was to sell all he had, not just put it in storage.

The people of Ammon needed to dig deep, throw away their sins, then fill in the hole with something else. Otherwise, they would have effectively built a trap, a deep hole with pointy objects at the bottom.

Most of the things I struggle with aren't as easy as digging a hole. Spiritual weapons are harder to bury. Fortunately, we have Jesus Christ by our side, helping us to dig deep, bury, and walk away even if it's a process we need to repeat and practice the rest of our lives.
