31 - alma's mission and my mission as mom 

3, 6-8 alma and a couple of his sons visit the wonderful land of the zoramites who have separated themselves a bit. 
verse 5 is one of my favorites and one i reference for my own philosophy when dealing with my family. the word of God " had more powerful effect upon the minds of the people than the sword, or anything else, which had happened unto them". 

10-11 this was pretty important since the zoramites had "perverted the ways of the Lord". alma needs to do some regulating in the church. 

12-25 they had adopted a cookie cutter type of "worship" and then did what they wanted the rest of the week. this cookie cutter approach to praying is something easy to fall into, no matter who you are. we are trying to keep that from happening at our house by quickly talking about what we should include in our prayers. 

30-35 after seeing the ridiculousness going on with these people, he asks God how long He will suffer them to be like that. (as mom, i view ridiculousness all the time, although not unrighteous but still ridiculous all the same. alma does another thing that i have to do with my kids. he prayed for strength, for help, for success. (as mom i would add patience, kindness, understanding, and love).
